Car Cover on the Street.

Car Cover on the Street.

Did you know that if covering your car while its on the public highway in the UK, you must display your number plates according to the law.  We would also suggest adding some reflective stickers to any car cover, to avoid any issues with visibility.   To tackle such a problem we now sell a DIY Kit so you can add a Numberplate Window to any outdoor car cover, not just one of ours.   A self sealing transparent window you position and install at the desired location on your cover.  More information here

Other things to consider.

  • Illegal if it blocks the number plate: It is an offence under the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 to obscure a vehicle's registration plate when parked on the public highway, so a car cover cannot cover the license plate.
  • Legal otherwise: As long as the number plate is clearly visible, it is generally legal to cover a car with a cover while it is parked on a public road.
  • Potential issues: You may still encounter issues if the cover is deemed to cause an "unnecessary obstruction" or is not secured properly, especially if it is on a highway or public road.  We would recommend using some extra securing straps
